This is a small Iittala Kantarelli bowl, designed by Tapio Wirkkala and dating from the early 1950s. The shape was inspired by the chanterelle mushroom which grows wild in Finnish forests and the original vase won the 1951 Milan Triennial. An example can be seen in the Victoria and Albert Museum. The bowl is in excellent condition for its age. It shows age related wear and tear to the rim of the base consistent with use. The bowl is broadly ovoid in shape at the bottom spreading out towards the undulating and pinched top lip, which measures 7.5 cm (3 inches) across at its widest point. The vase is blown in clear glass and is decorated with wheel-engraved vertical lines cut into the surface. The vase is 6 cm (2.4 inches) in height. There is a tiny scuff mark between two of the incised lines. There are no chips, cracks, other significant scratches or any obvious evidence of restoration. Lead glass. It weighs in at 255 g. (~ 9 oz.). Quote item: 7082 Please note: 1. All prices quoted are exclusive of postage.
